Brooklun Bureau of Community Service seeks Staff Generalist for East New York Clubhouse

Position: President / CEO
Program: Laurel House
Location: Stamford, Connecticut

Summary

The President and CEO will be the senior executive in charge at Laurel House and a member of the Board of Directors.  Laurel House is seeking a strong leader, manager and change agent, helping transition Laurel House from a local organization to one delivering services in Fairfield County and the State. The new CEO will inspire others to work with him/her to achieve the mission and vision at Laurel House.   S/he will serve as the principal “public face” of Laurel House in the communities it touches and will succeed the retiring CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to and works with the Board of Directors to develop the strategy and objectives of the organization and is responsible for updating the long range plan for Laurel House each year, working closely with the Board;
  • Responsible for executing the strategy and accountable annually for delivering the budget, as agreed with the Board;
  • Oversees all financial matters related to the organization, including financing, audit, budgeting and forecasting;
  • Responsible for all legal matters affecting Laurel House and its constituents;
  • Leads the fundraising strategy for the organization and helps expand and diversify the organization’s donor base;   
  • Plays a leadership role in the communities where members reside and with the State and Federal governments, increasing public knowledge about mental health issues in general and about Laurel House and its services specifically;
  • Develops deeper relationships with leading academic organizations to provide more meaningful research (with Laurel House) in the area of mental health rehabilitation;
  • Provides guidance and oversight to senior staff including the Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Finance and Vice President of Development as well as legal affairs (outsourced) and, upon funding, a Director of Research & Training; and
  • Makes certain that the senior level of management puts in place a disciplined approach to developing talented middle level management and that job descriptions and career path opportunities are well communicated and performance is monitored. 

Requirements:

  • Strong leadership and management skills, combining sound judgment and clear communication skills;
  • Comfort with and empathy for members of Laurel House and those afflicted with mental illness;
  • Passion for and commitment to the mission and vision statement;
  • Zeal for fundraising; spends time cultivating donors and working with development staff;
  • Brings established relationships and contacts with government, institutional and individual/family supporters; and
  • Understands financial reporting and can deliver on a budget.
  • Significant experience managing organizational growth and change;
  • Working knowledge of private and public funding sources including various federal, state and other funding programs and systems. Success in fundraising from individuals, corporations, foundations, and others;
  • Program and financial management experience and expertise;
  • Experience in a consolidating industry would be a plus;
  • Understanding/knowledge of healthcare system and issues a plus; and
  • Residence in the southwest Connecticut area or ability to relocate is preferred.
